My, oh my! What a great Blazers' game last night in Charlotte! Actually, the Blazers stunk up the joint for 3 1/2 quarters, but they were pretty amazing the last ten minutes of the game. With 5 minutes left in the 4th quarter Portland was down 18, but the Blazers ended regulation play on a 23-5 run and sent the game to overtime. And they went on to win 118-112 in OT.
So many heroes in this one --- Nikola Batum, LaMarcus Aldridge, Wesley Matthews, and Damian Lillard were all spectacular at times. But the Blazers wouldn't have won without Luke Babbitt who hit two 3-pointers in the final 2:09 of the 4th quarter, including the trey that tied the game at 102 with 22.8 seconds left. He also nailed a three with 1:44 left in the extra period that gave Portland a two-possession lead (110-106). Babbitt earned his spot on the team last night, for sure!
And the Blazers have had trouble making free throws at crunch time, but last night they drained 8 in a row in the final minute of OT to secure the win. So, after losing the first 4 games of the road-trip, the Blazers can return home Saturday night with a 3-game winning streak if they can win tomorrow night in Indiana. I'll have the pregame show for you tomorrow starting at 3:05 pm on Newsradio 1190 and 102.3 KEX.
