The Oregon State and Oregon baseball teams continue to lead the Pac hoping to win the Pac-12 regular-season title. The Beavers and Ducks have both swept their last two 3-game series to remain in a tight battle for the lead.
Oregon State leads by percentage points and have a one-game lead in the loss column. The Beavers continue to control their own destiny, but face a tough 3-game series at Stanford this weekend while the Ducks play a non-conference series at Ohio State. Oregon State must sweep the Cardinal to remain in front of Oregon. If the Beavers win two of three from the Cardinal, then OSU and UO will be deadlocked heading into their 3-game series the following weekend in Eugene in the next to last week of college baseball's regular season.
Tonight on Beaver Nation Live (7-8pm on Fox Sports Radio 620), I'll be recapping the highlights from Oregon State's sweep of the Cal Bears over the weekend. Freshman pitcher Andrew Moore (9-1, 1.37 ERA) will be my featured guest!
Things got a little TOO real at the pre-fight press conference today:
Blazers point-guard Damian Lillard has been recognized as the NBA Rookie of the Year. That's really no surprise considering Lillard was the NBA Western Conference Rookie of the Month all six months of the NBA season. Lillard was a unanimous selection, just the 4th in NBA history joining Ralph Sampson (1984), David Robinson (1990), and Blake Griffin (2011).
The #6 overall pick in the 2012 draft, Lillard proved he was more than capable of making the jump directly from Weber State to the NBA. He averaged 19 points, 6.5 assists, and 3.1 rebounds. He also played more minutes than any player in the entire NBA. And he made 185 3-pointers to break Damon Stoudamire's franchise record for threes made in a season. The 185 made threes also set an NBA rookie record (passing Steph Curry's mark).
Lillard becomes just the 4th Trail Blazer player to earn NBA Rookie of the Year honors, joining Geoff Petrie, Sidney Wicks, and Brandon Roy.
Also, Oregon State fans will want to listen tonight to Beaver Nation Live (7-8 pm PT) on Fox Sports Radio 620. My guests will include Beavers beat-writer John Hunt from the Oregonian, OSU baseball All-American Michael Conforto, sports photographer Brad Mangin, and sports training legend Tim Grover who has worked with many NBA greats including MJ, Kobe, Hakeem, and Sir Charles, just to name a few. It's sure to be of interest to all sports fans -- not just OSU fans! Tune in and join me tonight for BNL!
